Since 1994, Brian Raby brings years of expertise and a wealth of experience in marine insurance to Lightship Maritime. A fourth-generation Floridian, Brian began his journey in the insurance industry under the mentorship of his father, Ron Raby, at Marine Underwriters. Starting during high school summers and continuing full-time through college, Brian developed a robust foundation in the field, quickly discovering a passion for client interaction and insurance solutions.
To deepen his understanding of marine insurance and risk analysis, Brian took on an internship at Sunderland Marine Mutual Insurance Co., where he also participated in specialized marine insurance courses and gained hands-on experience at Lloyd's of London. This invaluable exposure equipped Brian with a comprehensive skill set that he brought back to Florida, taking on a broker position and building his own clientele while supporting his father's business.
Brian's career has been marked by extensive international work, assisting clients across the Southeast, Bahamas, Central America, and the Caribbean. This global perspective has enriched his understanding of diverse business cultures and client needs, enabling him to provide tailored insurance solutions.
In 2009, after Sunderland Marine Mutual acquired Marine Underwriters, Brian continued as a broker. The pivotal moment in his career came in 2016 when he reacquired the agency, transforming it into Lightship Maritime. Under his leadership, the company has flourished, offering peace of mind through personalized service and leveraging his decades of marine insurance knowledge.
